'Every
credit to director Mark Babych for being brave
enough to take on this production and doing
it justice. It's an emotionally-charged, grown-up
piece of theatre for a discerning audience.'
Lancashire Telegraph
The Emerald Isle meets The Sixth Sense
in this riveting and chilling urban ghost story
from the multi-award winning author of The
Weir, which enjoyed critical and audience
acclaim at the Octagon in 2003.
After leaving the priesthood to be with the
mother of his child, Neasa, Ian sets himself
up as a therapist in Dublin to support his new
family. One of his first clients is John who,
following the tragic death of his wife in a
car accident, has repeatedly seen her ghostly
figure appearing at his door. But surely it
must be his imagination...
Through taut, witty Irish banter and emotional
contact, John learns to open up to Ian, unearthing
his hidden demons and beginning to come to terms
with his grief. However, Ian starts to realise
that his life parallels John’s in many
ways, and that the ghosts of his past may yet
come back to haunt him too.
Described by The Daily Telegraph as ‘the
finest dramatist of his generation’, Conor
McPherson flawlessly brings classical Irish
storytelling into a modern, urban landscape.
This humourous, haunting and fascinating play
will have you gripped right up to the shocking
twist in the tale. Shining City has
previously played to sell-out audiences in London,
Dublin and on Broadway.
Please be aware that this production contains
some strong language. |
