Shakespeare's dark comedy of the super-rich at play, the lottery of love and savage bigotry, is truly a play for today.

From glittering Belmont awash with jewels and gold to the wild mercantile gambling of Venice, this story of gold transmuted into a ring of love unfolds against a backdrop of hate, where flesh is bartered to right old wrongs.

The play resonates with a society in which corporate power and wealth call all the shots.
