Artistic Policy
Our conviction that great plays can move, inspire and challenge audiences if the productions are accessible, intelligent, beautifully designed, brilliantly acted and sensitively directed is at the heart of the Octagon Theatre’s policy.
The Octagon Theatre welcomes and encourages experimentation and adventure. It offers a supportive environment for actors, writers, creative artists, technicians, community workers, educationalists, and administration staff - all dedicated to the pursuit of excellence.
The Octagon Theatre aims to create a company of actors which include leading actors in the profession working alongside young and lesser-known actors who have the talent, passion and commitment to become exceptional actors if offered opportunities for development.
The Octagon Theatre seeks to understand what a writer is trying to communicate to the audience; how a production seeks to give life to the writer’s vision; how each actor best expresses themself as part of a dynamic ensemble, and how each element contributes to a coherent whole.
The Octagon Theatre seeks to offer audiences new and surprising experiences, innovative in terms of the subject matter and the theatrical forms adopted. It aims to attract the widest possible audience, encouraging experienced theatre-goers to come to the Octagon more frequently and seeking to reach those for whom, for a variety of social or cultural reasons, theatre is alienating or forbidding as an artform.
