Script Reading Service

We read and give feedback to unsolicited scripts. We offer a script reading service in conjunction with NorthWest Playwrights. We aim is to reply to every playwright within three months, each playwright receives feedback from Elizabeth Newman and NorthWest Playwrights. In 2009/2010 the Octagon processed one hundred and seventy scripts.

Development and Process weeks

The Octagon will continue to select plays that we believe would benefit from a workshop or short rehearsal period. This artistic support is given to selected playwrights that we feel have a real talent that we wish to develop and nurture. This does not guarantee that we will produce the play that is worked on during this period. Our aim is to assist the playwright to develop their play so that it could be produced professionally anywhere in the country.

Dramaturgical Support

The Octagon does offer dramaturgical support to playwrights that are not in Incubate or under commission. However, there are a limited number of opportunities. We will offer dramaturgical support to approximately ten playwrights a year. Elizabeth Newman selects these playwrights. They are always playwrights that the Theatre has an interest in developing the work of and assisting to hone thier new play and/or craft.
