‘Northern
Broadsides...easily the most exciting and accessible productions of the
last decade’ New Statesman
'A hugely impressive
production' Manchester Evening News
THE topical comedy for 2007
Blake Morrison’s re-working of Aristophanes' classic comedy takes
on the great issues of our time - race, war, religion, terrorism and sexual
morality - with disturbing hilarity.
It’s 2007 in the northern mill-town of Blackhurst and intolerable
racial tensions are tearing the mixed community apart. Summat MUST to
be done, and sharpish.
Radical behaviour requires a radical plan and Lisa hatches an outrageous
plot to encourage peace - a sex strike - no more nooky ‘til the
fighting stops, with riotously funny consequences.
But as the women of Blackhurst strive towards love…not war…they
make a disturbing discovery that turns their local dispute into a demonstration
of global proportions.
Lisa’s Sex Strike sees internationally acclaimed Northern
Broadsides teaming up with the Octagon following hugely successful tours
of Blake Morrison’s The Cracked Pot and Oedipus
in 2001. This production will coincide with the release of the major film
version of Morrison’s prize-winning autobiography And When Did
You Last See Your Father? which will star Colin Firth and Jim Broadbent.
This play contains some sexually explicit language and imagery and is
not suitable for children.
